Motivation: 7 More Musings on Motivation

Let's pause and consider that last part for a moment. Nothing will be impossible for you. If this were true in your life, what would you do? Think in terms of family, career, lifestyle, giving back. This is an incredibly powerful statement once we get our head around and use it. 2. "Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better." - Jim Rohn. Instead of complaining and wishing, take the necessary steps to make yourself stronger. In my practice I have come to belief there is no such thing as a "resistant client." I just have to become better and better as a therapist. 4. "You can have anything you want, you just can't have everything you want." Peter McWilliams, author of "DO IT! Let's Get Off Our Buts." This is about choice, focus and persistence. We need to decide want we want and then persistently go for it. At the same, we need to realize that choosing what to go for means there will be things we can not go for, because time is a limited product. 5. "I would rather be paid 1% of 100 people's efforts rather than 100% of my own efforts" - J. Paul Getty. In other words, how can you work smarter instead of harder? 6. "If you have a big enough why, the how will follow" - Tony Robbins. The problem for most of us is that we don't have a big enough why. 7."Chance favors the prepared mind" - Louis Pasteur. Think about this quote as you spend the next evening in front of the TV. For what are you preparing your mind? The Conversation of Recovery - Part Two The listening for the Conversation of possibilities will be even more unfamiliar than the one about the self-limiting belief. Even though possibilities will be caused for the individual and a sense of hope and inspiration created, there will be a tendency at some point for the person to not belief that their life can be truly transformed merely by creating possibilities. Even when the person gets the existence of his self-limiting belief, how he has been being that in his life and the impact upon himself and others as a result, a sense of doubt will arise that mere words or language will truly assist them in transforming their life let alone cause them to be successful with respect to their recovery. As with a newborn child, the existence of possibilities once invented or created will be quite fragile. There will be in the beginning of this Conversation a tendency to return to being ones self-limiting belief if for no other reason than it is familiar to the person. The self-limiting belief is about life in their comfort zone, from the ego, in what is reasonable and familiar to them. Even though the individual will become enrolled into his possibilities it is in the person's initial not getting of its application in life that will leave it vulnerable. The individual will return to his community and with this reentry a breakdown will happen. The success of this process will rest upon the individual continuing to stay in the Conversation about his possibilities and also upon the one assisting to continue to generate the space necessary for this creative process to be lived fully. After the Storm...... Have you ever wondered why is it that after we go through a bad phase in life we seem to come out better for it? It use to puzzle me too until recently after I stared down a gunman's nozzle I realized why. How To Get Through A Bad Day No matter how hard you try to make them otherwise, some days are just awful. They start off bad, they never get any better, and they end on a low and sometimes even gloomier note. These days befuddle your mind, waste your finite resources and throw your calendar off. Some people call the state of mind accompanying this day 'depression' or are content to simply think of it as 'having a bad day'. Sometimes there are logical explanations mostly, though, these days seem to strike at will and we don't understand how or why they have entered our lives. How would your rate your life on a scale from one to ten; 10 being fantastic and 1 being the worst it could possibly be? Are you happy with the most important aspects of your life? And note that I did not say are you content or are you satisfied. I said are you HAPPY with your life the way it is now? If you are, why are you happy? If you are not, why not? I urge you to be specific when you answer those questions. What Makes You Special? Many people are too busy today trying to fit themselves into the image of other people.
