Ideas Abound - But Youve Got to Take Action
Whether you are aware of it or not, we are all blessed with any number of wonderful ideas at virtually any given moment. What happens far too often however is that we ponder for a bit about the idea. We may even go as far as to plan a little about what it would take to make it work, yet for whatever reason we never take the most important step... The step that makes it all happen, that is we don't act on it! In every case I have studied there is one common factor that allows one person to reach their goals while another is left just reaching. That being that the "successful person" allowed himself or herself to be "lead" by their idea. The simple truth is that if something is good enough to cross your mind, there's an extremely good chance that you will be successful in it and able to achieve it! Even so, one thing is for certain, if you never set out in pursuit of your dream you will never reach your intended goal. We can pretty much sum it all up like this... goals + action + persistence = Achievement in virtually any endeavor. So there you have it -- go for your dreams! Be your biggest cheering section if you have to, but don't sell yourself short. It's worth the effort it takes to make your dreams come true. Now Matt is by no means stupid. The reason he got poor grades is because he did not do the work that was required for some of his classes. Why did not he do the work? According to him, he did not feel motivated to do it. After having a loud discussion with him (translation: I was ranting and raving), I realized that Matt is no different than many people in his erroneous idea about motivation and success. Procrastination Emancipation It's early January as I sit down to research and write this newsletter. I launch my web browser, surf over to MSN.com, surprised to find the feature article displaying a picture of Santa Claus with the caption "It's not too late to have your presents arrive on time." Somebody's been procrastinating - either Bill Gates or me (maybe I did not refresh my browser). Or maybe my computer is trying to give me the hint to stop procrastinating and set about the task of writing this newsletter. Nah... Bill Gates must be the guilty one! If Theres Money in a Dead Mouse... My 4 year old son was very excited. I had promised him to tell a wonderful story tonight. A vast treasure trove, I imagine, to a bee. Motivation By A Challenge Many humans are motivated by the thought of doing something they or others think they cannot do. Being Genuinely Curious Yesterday at the dinner table, my eleven-year-old daughter asked me, "Aren't there times when you absolutely know you are right and the other person is wrong?" She had a disagreement at school that day and believed that her view was the truth. I said, "I used to think I was always right and that other people were wrong. Now I still think I may be right, but I realize that other people know things that I don't. I'm more interested in learning than being right." Benjamin Franklin Achieving Your Dreams While most people spend most of their lives struggling to earn a living, a much smaller number seem to have everything going their way. Instead of just earning a living, the smaller group is busily working at building and enjoying a fortune. Everything just seems to work out for them. And here sits the much larger group, wondering how life can be so unfair, so complicated and unjust.
