Are you maximizing your strengths and promoting your talents at work? If you have sharp analytical skills, have you sought to apply those skills to your current job? Just what ARE your talents and how can you apply them to your career? 1. Discover Your Hidden Talents a. What are your strengths and weaknesses? b. How can you capitalize on your strengths and improve your weaknesses? c. Can you enhance your strengths and dissipate your weaknesses by learning on-the-job or by taking additional classes or training? 2. Promote Your Talents Within a. Once you have an analysis of the talents you have to offer, start promoting them. If you don't tout them, then no one will. b. Talk with your boss about helping out the team. Your pathway to the top is by being someone who can be counted on. 3. Take Action a. After you tell your employer about your hidden talents and your ideas for using them, you must live by your words. He clearly has a social conscience and his depictions of the pain and misery of disenfranchised and minority people are so vivid and real you can't help but feel the pain in viewing the paintings. A Progress Review is a specific kind of coaching discussion, tied to the employee's Annual Objectives and Standards. It is an informal discussion in which the manager coaches the direct report to meet any unmet goals that are below target, and praises him or her for goals that are being met. Conducting progress reviews are a very important role for being an effective leader or coach. It is suggested that each of your direct reports receive a progress review discussion from you at least 2-3 times per year. I imagine such a statement could find a lot of opinionated opposition if it implied a lack of growth, whether that be on a knowledgeable level, a logical or spiritual one, but in this case we refer to ourselves and who we are in relation to who we were when we decided to grace this world with our presence. The Story ?From the Chicken Coop? Many years ago my grandfather, had a small farm and chickens. One morning he sent me out to the chicken coop to collect fresh eggs. He became concerned when I did not return after a shot interval. When he came looking for me I jumped with joy, but he saw tears in my eyes and noticed that I was in an adjacent empty chicken coop, which could be entered only through the same door as the occupied coop.
